Sound Effects and Novelty Radios
Room 101
In this gallery visitors see how radio sound effects were done. A wall display illustrates the kinds of parts used in radios and television sets (capacitors, resistors, vacuum tubes, etc.) A large display case showcases transistor novelty radios (radios that resemble beer cans, gas pumps, and even fast-food items like a McDonald’s French fry radio). Again, audio clips are available to hear memorable programs, both local and national.
